What is Single Touch Payroll
STP works by sending tax and super information from your STP-enabled payroll or accounting software to the ATO as you run your payroll. Single touch payroll is a recent regulation that changed when and how small businesses report payroll activity to the Australian Tax Office (ATO).
Businesses used to report this information to the ATO once a year. Now, they send a report after each pay day. And those reports must be submitted digitally, using a very specific format.
•
a payment summary annual report for the ATO
•
a payment summary for each employee
You need to report payroll online
There are no more paper forms for reporting your payroll activity to the ATO. You need to submit the information online, using a specific format known as SBR (Standard Business Reporting).
